I am getting good modem speeds, but my laptop speeds have recently gone down drastically. Any tips on settings to check/change to improve my speed?
Hi, @Renee_S,
Thanks for the message. That’s correct, I just tested the modem speeds and they look good:
Some reasons for the difference:
- Distance between modem and laptop: try to get the laptop closer to the router
- Wi-fi limitation: you can try connecting the laptop to the router using an ethernet cable
- Router limitation: you can try an external router instead of the built-in one. There are some suggestions here: What router do you use with your Viasat service?
Let me know if that helps.
Thanks, I’ll check that out. After reading other topics, I see my WiFi connection is 2.4 GHz. Would changing this to 5 GHz help as I work close to the equipment? If so, how do I do that?

I figure it out. Device speed is better now.

Yes 5ghz is much better, Only downside with it it lacks range, while 2.4 can cross a longer range but at the cost of speed!

Yes, that’s correct, I forgot to mention the 5GHz. Glad you found the solution!
