Slow speeds all day long

I’ve had ViaSat for a week. I’ve been online at all times of the day. I haven’t seen any speeds over 6Mbps using one device only. Is there something that can be done about this???

Hi @homermoyer ,

I’m sorry about that experience. When you have time, can you please run a few tests using the guide below? This will help us to troubleshoot what is causing your low speeds.

  • You can download the Viasat Browser here: https://browser.viasat.com/.
  • After you install the browser, you need to be logged in on speedcheck.viasat.com.
    • To do that, click “Login” in the upper right corner of the menu, as indicated in the picture below.
    • The credentials for this login are the same as the ones you use for MyViasat.

When you run the tests from the Viasat browser, we can see “Speed from your device” and most importantly “Speed from your modem”, which is greatly useful to identify discrepancies in the speeds, such as in this example below:

I know this is a bit more cumbersome than just running a normal test, but the complete diagnosis helps us eliminate other factors.

:exclamation: The Modem Speed Test is currently not compatible with iPhone/iOS devices. If you don’t have an Android mobile device, please run the test on a computer.

ViaSat says to use another router for Wi-Fi. I did this, but it makes my max download speed around 6Mbps. I hook up directly to the ViaSat router, it jumps to over 100Mbps. Do you recommend a certain brand of router to use for wi-fi?

Hi @homermoyer,

Before considering acquiring a new Wi-Fi router, could you please run a complete speed test following the instructions that @Isabela provided? That way, our team can look into the specifics of your speed problems and check if they are indeed related to your router :slightly_smiling_face:

I have done the tests

Hi @homermoyer ,

My apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I see that you ran a couple of speed tests on the 5th and 6th, and also one yesterday. While I was able to see the speeds on your device, the report unfortunately did not record the speeds on your modem due to a problem on our side. This has since been fixed.

If you’re still having issues with your Wi-Fi, could you please run another speed test?

Hi @homermoyer,

From the last couple of tests you ran, I see that your speeds have increased quite a bit

How has your experience been since then?

I see that there’s some difference between the speeds on your device and on your modem. If you feel that this is affecting your internet experience, I could give you some pointers for a new router that can give you better wireless coverage
