I occasionally check modem settings in link to viasat modem in viasat browser and come up with warning in the title.
I also get the same warning when entering modem’s address in firefox browser/
** Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead
Firefox detected an issue and did not continue to viasatmodem.com. The website is either misconfigured or your computer clock is set to the wrong time.
It’s likely the website’s certificate is expired, which prevents Firefox from connecting securely. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.
What can you do about it?
The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it. You can notify the website’s administrator about the problem.
When trying to access modem this morning came up with same error message. The message had a reccomendation of turning on enhanced security. I read what enhanced security consisted of. One sentence causes me much concern " Requires browsing data to be sent to Google." I turned on enhanced security temporarily. And now I’m able to access the modem settings. I went back into security and changed back to standard protection.
Should I be using a VPN to protect my privacy? Seems like an AI overreach.
Thanks for your post. Yesterday we found that the SSL certificate on your kind of modem is expired, which is why you are seeing this warning when trying to reach your modem. Our engineering team is already working to put together a software update that should we released to all the affected modems in a couple of weeks.
I don’t think you need to maintain the enhanced security ON if you are not comfortable with the terms of that feature. This certificate that needs to be updated only applies to your Viasat modem’s user interface page, which can only be accessed if you are connected to your home internet network. So as long as you keep your Wi-Fi password safe, then you should be ok.
I don’t see the benefit in using a VPN for this situation either. Plus, VPNs tend to slow down your speeds because all the traffic goes through a tunnel.
I’ll make sure that we provide an update once the certificate issue is resolved for your modem model.
We escalated your issue to the Modem team, and looks like there was a hiccup with the upgrade process in your unit.
They’ve done a clean upgrade, and your modem has already rebooted. They’ve also fixed the issue that caused this, so you should not get that warning after today.
Please let us know if you can successfully access viasatmodem.com
