Unwatchable slow speed

Just ran Speedtest. 1.1MBS DOWN 0.4MBS UP.

Hi, @BahSatMan,

Please, when you have a chance run a complete speed diagnosis as follows:

1 - Open the Viasat browserthis test won’t work on other browsers;
2 - Go to this website: Viasat Speed Check | Home
3 - Log in using your My Viasat account
4 - Run the test (wait for both tests - modem and device - to finish)

I’m seeing good speeds from your modem now, so that test will help me understand the issue.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your cooperation!

Hi Anderson, what time of day did you run your test? I’ve been using the Viasat browser to run tests and in the evening and especially when there is something popular on streaming I get speeds in the single digits.

Hi @BahSatMan

Do you happen to have more than 1 account assigned to this email address? We can’t see any tests on your speedcheck history after 2023:

Please double-check that you are logged in :slight_smile:

I just did 2 tests while logged in. I have run it a few times without logging in…:upside_down_face:

Hi @BahSatMan

We still can’t see any results besides that single one from 2023.
I’m investigating whether it’s a bug on our side, but in the meantime please double-check that you are:

  • logged into the Speedcheck website;
  • using the Viasat Browser;
  • connected to the Viasat network;
  • not running the tests from an iPhone.

I’ll attach the full guide below in case you’re having issues with any part of the testing:

  • You can download the Viasat Browser here: https://browser.viasat.com/.
  • After you install the browser, you need to be logged in on speedcheck.viasat.com.
    • To do that, click “Login” in the upper right corner of the menu, as indicated in the picture below.
    • The credentials for this login are the same as the ones you use for MyViasat.

PS: The Modem Speed Test is currently not compatible with iPhones. If you don’t have an Android mobile device, please run the test on a computer.

Not being able to use an iPhone is news to me.

I have run many tests since January 2023 but I’m glad that test result is available.
As you can see from that test result on 1/10/2023 I was use to much higher speeds than I’ve been seeing in the last 6 months. I just ran a test from my PC with a hardwired connection and speed results of 17mbps down and 5mbps up are marginal. I’ve also seen speeds in the low signal digits times when shows like Thursday Night Football are popular streaming shows. And all streaming become unwatchable and internet access is unusable. I pay for a 100mbps/ 300GB plan. I’ve been paying a reasonable rate for the past year but as of this month my monthly subscription rate is doubling. Considering the fact that speed performance has deteriorated by 80%+ since I signed up I’m having trouble justifying the cost for VIASAT service.

I also just noticed that in your earlier message you displayed a test result from 01/10/2023. When I look in my results history on https://speedcheck.viasat.com/ the history shows it as 10/1/2023…curious.

Hi @BahSatMan

Sorry for the slow reply.

The speedcheck modem test has not worked with iPhones for a very long time, hence why we always have a disclaimer on the tutorial page (or sometimes on these direct messages).

It’s a regional thing: Date/Month/Year instead of MM/DD/YY – not to worry! It is the same test as you saw, October 1st 2023. :wink:

Did anything change on your account or setup these past few months? Such as maybe tree foliage growing in front of the antenna’s line of sight, or a new placement of the modem, etc.
