At the time of install, the tech advised we would likely see upload speeds between 1 Mbps and 3 Mbps depending on network congestion. After speedtesting at various times of day, I’ve yet to get anything above 0.8 Mbps, with an un-scientific average of about 0.6 Mbps. Download speeds have been fine. Is there anything we can do to increase our upload speeds to get into the 1 Mbps to 3 Mbps (or more) range?
@schafhausen I ran a remote speed test and saw 1.5 Mbps. I will try another one soon. Question: have you tried using the advanced tab on the speedcheck.viasat.com app in order to run a “speedtest from your modem” as in the following diagram:
I documented how to do this here: How to run speedtest From My Modem? - #3 by peter.
The other nice thing about speedcheck.viasat.com is it maintains a history of your results so you can really document when you are not seeing the speeds (upload or down) that you expect over time.
Can you run this and share your results?
Thanks,
Peter
These are the results from my laptop. This is a work machine so can’t install the Viasat browser:
These are the results from my phone via the Viasat browser. I’m not seeing how to run the test from the “Advanced” tab on the mobile app.
@Peter , I hope this helps. Thank you
Ok – primarily I’m trying to rule out Wifi. How about we try another approach?
The cloudcheck app includes a test of your Wifi segment. Can you try running this and share your results?
At the same time, no rush on you as I just ran a test from your modem and saw only 0.77 Mbps upload (similar to your result) so I’m escalating this issue to see if we can figure out what is causing this.
Thanks,
Peter
Hi Peter,
Here is the response from CloudCheck…
I’m on my Viasat Wi-Fi, but unsure why it won’t show broadband data…
Based on your results, we can rule out the Wifi segment. I hope to have something that will explain your poor upload speeds from the engineering team soon.
Thanks,
Peter
@schafhausen A fix is scheduled to be deployed next week that should improve upload speed on your beam. I will let you know when the update has happened and we can both then test and see if we see any improvements in upload speeds.
@schafhausen a fix is scheduled to be rolling out this week. Look for upload speeds to improve in the next few days.
Thanks Peter. I’ll keep an eye out.
I spoke too soon. Look for improvements starting tomorrow. Sorry I jumped the gun.
Peter
