SLOW SPEEDS tests run

I have done internet speed tests for the past month and haven’t had anything better then 54.7 download and 3.39 upload and I am paying for the highest plan. What can be done? I am 1 month into service

Hi, @szechman23,

Thanks for your message!

I’ll check that now. Once I have more information I let you know.

Hi, @szechman23,

Is the speed consistently below 54Mbps or does it happen just at certain times?

Could you send us a modem speed test? I need this in order to check if your router is ok.

Here is how to do it:

1 - Open the Viasat browserthis test won’t work on other browsers;
2 - Go to this website: Viasat Speed Check | Home
3 - Log in using your My Viasat account
4 - Run the test (wait for both tests - modem and device - to complete)
5 - Take a screenshot of the results
6 - Send us the results

Thanks for your cooperation!

Always around the same.

Thanks for sending the results.

In the first test, you did not use the Viasat browser to run the test (so we could not see the modem speeds):

However, the speeds on your device at that time were good, since your plan is 100Mbps DL. Because of that, we can assume that the modem speeds were probably good too.

The second result you sent had a latency of 31 ms, so probably that test was not measuring the Viasat Internet.

Geostationary internet has around ~650 ms of latency (ping), as shown in the first result.

Maybe that last one was the mobile internet? Could you confirm it?

The one I sent that is 51mbps is from Google browser, the one that was over 120mbps was on the viasat browser. What the difference? I need it 100 on my normal browser for computers, etc.

Hi, @szechman23,

What I was trying to say is that a latency of 31 ms, as in the second result you sent, is not possible in a geostationary satellite connection.

The Viasat’s satellites are very far from the ground, so the expected latency is around 500-700 ms.

Did you do that second test from a different device? If so, is it possible that it was connected to another network?

Just sent you again from Viasat network,

@szechman23, thanks for sending again.

It looks like the speeds are good now, right?

Did you find out if you used the internet from another provider on that other test? That would explain the low latency and the slower speeds.

This is the speed test I just ran on our Google browser. Not Viasat browser. This is the Viasat network. Are you telling me I can only get good speeds using the Viasat internet browser? If that’s the case this won’t work for our computers.

Hi, @szechman23,

Are you telling me I can only get good speeds using the Viasat internet browser?

No, I said that it’s not possible to get a latency of 22ms with geostationary satellite (Viasat)

Please, could you try running speed tests with other apps in Google Chrome:

That difference might be due to some temporary issue in Google’s speed test, I’m not sure.
