Slow speeds, frequent disconnects, super slow upload speeds

Since joining the new unleashed plan, my upload speeds have been horrible right now im not even getting 1 full Mbps, and at this moment I would much rather cancel the service all together, I work from home and I’m starting to lose money with this internet service.

Hello not a tech just a Average customer like you, But when they changed me to this new plan, I had to reset my Modem by Unplugging and waiting a few Minuets and plug back in to refresh, I say give that a try, If that does not work, I suggest to call customer support and see about getting a equipment upgrade, Or to see if maybe the dish is not aligned correctly!

Hi @tashira1212

I’m sorry for this experience you’re having with Viasat.

I checked your account and it does not seem that you have any hardware issues or an antenna mispoint.

Did this issue start only after the Plan switch, or did you always have low speeds like that?

As @Mannyrue mentioned, it may be worth asking Customer Care for a newer modem. Your current Gateway modem is built for high speeds, but an upgrade may be required for this newer plan.

We’ve seen a few “Unleashed” customers who cannot get the full promised speeds before the upgrade.

If possible, could you attach those previous speed tests you’ve already run? I’d like to check if they were device-only.

I couldn’t find any on your speedcheck.viasat.com account, so it’d be great to cross-check your modem vs device speeds.

All Viasat plans have a maximum of 3 Mbps on the upload speed, but less than 1 is far from ideal and not very common.

When you have time, can you please run a few tests using the guide below?

  • You can download the Viasat Browser here: https://browser.viasat.com/.
  • After you install the browser, you need to be logged in on speedcheck.viasat.com.
    • To do that, click “Login” in the upper right corner of the menu, as indicated in the picture below.
    • The credentials for this login are the same as the ones you use for MyViasat.

When you run the tests from the Viasat browser, we can see “Speed from your device” and most importantly “Speed from your modem”, which is greatly useful to identify discrepancies in the speeds, such as in this example below:

I know this is a bit more cumbersome than just running a normal test, but the complete diagnosis helps us eliminate other factors.

:exclamation: The Modem Speed Test is currently not compatible with iPhone/iOS devices. If you don’t have an Android mobile device, please run the test on a computer.
