hello dear friends … i’ve been a viasat/exede /wild blue user for a long time, more than 15 years… with the recent plan change to 60 G hispeed data i was having very low download speeds (less than 1 Mb often) and i am happy to report that the situation was resolved beautifully by the viasat engineers.
however, with this month’s renewed fresh supply of 60 GB high speed data my slow speeds have returned (less than 3 Mb/sec with long loading lag time) and i still have 50 GB of hispeed data remaining…i remain very optimistic that a solution or some suggestions can be found again to help resolve this situation … i have a few screenshots of speed checks i can forward … thank you
Thanks for your message, and we’ll help you troubleshoot this.
Could you kindly share with us the speed checks you’ve made? If you haven’t already, please also run an advanced speed check, which shows the modem speeds as well, and share it with us. Here’s the article with detailed instructions on how to do that: How to run a speed test from my modem?
I redacted your mail address since it’s a piece of personal information, but we’ve made sure to note it. If you’d rather communicate with us via mail, please let us know.
Regarding your speed checks, I immediately saw a discrepancy between your device and modem speeds, which can indicate a Wi-Fi issue. Have you run those tests near the modem? If not, please run them as close to the modem as possible and let us know if the results are different then.
the modem and the router and the computer are all within about 3 feet of each other here…what i will do this evening is connect the modem directly to the computer and rerun the tests after the evening chores and forward results to you
i excluded the router (it was a cable connected router with cables between modem and router and computer) and reran the test … very different result this evening. I am going to leave the router excluded and do a few more tests … this result is the result i was getting last month. Bill
Since this is strong indication of a Wi-Fi signal issue, an external router such as this one (TP-Link AC1200 Gigabit WiFi Router - Archer A6 ) could improve the Wi-Fi coverage in your house.
If you get that router or a similar one, the Wi-Fi coverage in your house would improve and the speeds on your devices could be as good as the speeds on your modem.
yes…i ordered a new

TP-Link TL-SG108 8 Port Gigabit Unmanaged Ethernet Network Switch, Ethernet Splitter
today, which is well rated at 8 out of 10, lifetime warrantied …clearly my ethernet splitter is on its last legs…the wifi at my house never actually gets used except 2 weeks per year when guests visit…i use a device called a splitter routinely but in my mind i still call everything a router.
my numbers were good all day today until just now before this message (speedtest without router) and the numbers are sagging at the moment … they were perfect all day … i don’t know … the numbers are variable…this speedtest is directly connectioned to modem…what do think?
Since those tests were run when directly hooked to the modem, we’ll investigate if there’s some other issue besides your Wi-Fi. Once we have any updates or if we need any new pieces of information we’ll let you know.
the new router/splitter arrives tomorrow night from amazon, they usually take 6 or 7 days…i haven’t checked speeds for a while…i haven’t noticed any problems for most of the day, mostly the youtube video that i watch i usually watch at 144p unless i really need to read equations or diagrams then i use 240p…speeds need to get below 3 mb before it gets to be a nuisance for me … so you can mark the situation as SOLVED and i think things will be good … if necessary we can look again later
