Slow internet speed upload and download

My internet speeds are very slow lately. I did a peed check and download speeds are only 26mps and I pay for 100mps. So I’m getting ripped off. I have unplugged the modem and plugged it back in to see if it reset itself to a higher speed with no luck. How can I improve the speed?

This is the end of my first month of Viasat. I too am experiencing speed issues. I’m paying for the 100/500 plan. I would expect to have high speed internet throughout the month. Today was horrible, speeds of under 5mps. could not set up a new computer.

I called the office 3 times and the only thing they tell me to do is reset the router (this is an everyday occurrence) and sent me to the forum. Finally on the 3rd call, the tech set up the service for Monday!!!
I have 5 humans in the household and the internet will be screwed up for the weekend.

Anyway, Can the smart folks explain the inconsistent.

Don’t get me started on the data usage costs!

It’s obvious from reading so many posts with this same issue, Viasat is ripping us all off. I pay over $300 a month and expect to get what I pay for, that’s all I’m asking for. They just seem to do nothing about the internet speed issues, seems deliberate to me. Has anyone here tried Starlink? I’m considering switching over, I just don’t want to have the same issues.

Sorry for this experience you’re having with Viasat.

I see from your screenshots that those are Device speed tests only, were you able to run a Modem test to cross-check the speeds? This way we can rule out a Wi-Fi issue.

When you have time, can you please run a few tests using the guide below?

  • You can download the Viasat Browser here:
  • After you install the browser, you need to be logged in on
    • To do that, click “Login” in the upper right corner of the menu, as indicated in the picture below.
    • The credentials for this login are the same as the ones you use for MyViasat.


When you run the tests from the Viasat browser, we can see “Speed from your device” and most importantly “Speed from your modem”, which is greatly useful to identify discrepancies in the speeds, such as in this example below:

I know this is a bit more cumbersome than just running a normal test, but the complete diagnosis helps us eliminate other factors.

:exclamation: The Modem Speed Test is currently not compatible with iPhone/iOS devices. If you don’t have an Android mobile device, please run the test on a computer.

I just downloaded the Viasat browser to my laptop and ran the speed test on my laptop and here are my results. Not good at all :frowning:

Those speeds are indeed low for your plan. I’ve just made a network configuration on your account that might change that, and it’ll go into full effect an hour from now.

Can you please run another few tests later, maybe once every different period of the day just so we can double-check the new speeds?
