Looks like a lot of people are having difficulty with Viasat. My upload speed is between 4.5 - 5. My usage keeps increasing daily we aren’t even home all day and there is only two of us. We can’t hardly ever watch a movie because the speed is so low.
I guess I like the forum because at least I can see that there are a lot of issues.
We will most likely be looking elsewhere for services if this doesn’t change.
Apologies for this experience you’re currently having with Viasat
All our plans have the promised upload speed of 3 Mbps – in some areas, this may reach 4, 5, or higher Mbps.
I double-checked and you’re currently on Plan “Choice 50 Mbps/100 GB”, with an expected download speed of 50 Mbps and an expected upload speed of 3 Mbps.
Your setup seems to have no inherent issue as of right now, and your modem speeds are great:
If you could run for us a few Full Speed Diagnostics at different hours of the day, that would help immensely in understanding what the speeds are like on your devices
When you have time, can you please run a few tests using the guide below?
- You can download the Viasat Browser here: https://browser.viasat.com/.
- After you install the browser, you need to be logged in on speedcheck.viasat.com.
- To do that, click “Login” in the upper right corner of the menu, as indicated in the picture below.
- The credentials for this login are the same as the ones you use for MyViasat.
When you run the tests from the Viasat browser, we can see “Speed from your device” and most importantly “Speed from your modem”, which is greatly useful to identify discrepancies in the speeds, such as in this example below:
I know this is a bit more cumbersome than just running a normal test, but the complete diagnosis helps us eliminate other factors.
The Modem Speed Test is currently not compatible with iPhone/iOS devices. If you don’t have an Android mobile device, please run the test on a computer.

So the full Speed Check would help us understand if your slow speeds come from a Wi-Fi issue or if they are due to the distance between your modem and your devices.
