Ripped off by ViaSat

While it may seem petty, I am irritated, that after closing my account having fulfilled my part of the agreement, ViaSat charged my credit card $4.14. While it may seem silly to make an issue of such a small amount, I didn’t owe them and they have no right to steal my money. I called customer service, and the person who almost spoke English claims that it is for voice service. My account, including voice service, is closed and was paid in full. I do not owe them. All fees were paid on the previous bill. I don’t see how I can ever consider using ViaSat again, nor recommending them to anyone else.

Hi @ChetLewis ,

I’m sorry about this, we understand getting wrongly charged for anything (regardless of the amount) can be pretty disheartening.

I’ve taken a look at your account, and it seems like your previous invoices were always issued on the 20th of each month.

If I’m not mistaken, you called to officially disconnect from Viasat on October 16, right? So your previous billing cycle was paid up until October 19.

However, it looks like in our system your disconnect took a few days to complete – exactly on October 20, to be specific.

This might be why you were charged this small leftover amount: the system could have interpreted October 20 as the start of another billing cycle (which also ends on October 20).

I’ll contact the Billing team to confirm this theory and see if we can refund the $4.14 to your payment method.

Thank you for taking time to attend to my silly little problem. It was my request and understanding that both phone and internet were to be disconnected on the 19th. The satellite was disconnected around 3:00 in the afternoon on the 19th, and, of course, there is no phone without satellite service.

Hi @ChetLewis ,

Sorry for the delay!

I’ve been talking to the Billing team about your case, and they managed to explain the charge… But as I need to show you some info from your invoices, I’m sending you a DM so as to not expose your personal data on the Forum.
