Questions that need answers

Just wondering what’s the speed for download and upload are usually supposed to be after you hit your data cap for the month get back to me when you can thanks

Hello @Nikolasgreenelsh,

Thanks for posting.

I took a look at your account, and found that when out of priority data your speeds would unfortunately be low between peak busy period (roughly 6pm to midnight). According to my analysis, the download speeds during that period would on average be 10 Mbps.

What speeds have you been getting? Please use our Speed Check App to run a full diagnosis when you get a chance - How to run a speed test from my modem?

Thanks,

Nacho

So I should be getting 10 but I get a download of 0.20-0.10

Makes it unusable at night

And I’ll send you the speed test when it starts to go down around 6-8

Hi @Nikolasgreenelsh,

Although the average throughout that period of time would be 10 Mbps, the actual speed can fluctuate in accordance to fullness in the service area at that particular moment.

Just so that we can properly troubleshoot and isolate the variables, I will go ahead and add 30 GBs (free-of-charge) to your account. This will allow us to see the performance in full-speed, hopefully you can help us run some of the tests I mentioned earlier and share the results with us? Feel free to send those later, no rush.

Thanks,

Nacho

That’s what I get throughout the day befor 6-12pm

And it’s saying I’ve already used up the 30gbs you gave me even tho it’s showing 17gbs used today since 12pm-2:40pm

And my bad I was looking at the wrong day only used 6.14gbs

Hi @Nikolasgreenelsh,

I just double checked and you still have 32 GB of priority data.

Unfortunately the Usage Data section on the My Viasat app doesn’t yet provide a comprehensive summary that includes Buy More data. But we have gotten a lot of feedback from customers and are already working to redesign the way in which data usage is summarized (graphs and statistics) to make it more useful and easier to understand.

Ight was just checking cause it said that when I checked it last

Hi @Nikolasgreenelsh,

Thanks for sharing this result with us, could you please run another one in the evening?

Also, as a general recommendation, if you use the sharing feature (green button) you will be able to send us a full summary that will include all metrics.

Thanks for your help troubleshooting,

Nacho

Shouldn’t I do that when I’m out of data again so you’ll see what was happening cause if I have data the connection is solid but when im out of data and it hits 6-8 pm connection drops from 100-110 to 0.20-0.10

In order to get the full picture it would be useful to see the full diagnosis in the evening while you still have priority data, and then see it again when you are out of data.

Thanks!

Nacho

Hi @Nikolasgreenelsh,

Thanks for sending me these results (below) over direct message. I am posting it here so that our other moderators can see it, I hope that’s ok? I blurred out any information that could be considered personal.

Thanks,

Nacho

Update for moderators - customer sent these new test results over DM last night:

Hi @Nikolasgreenelsh ,

I just wanted to check with you if you are still experiencing this issue. If so, please let us know and we’ll be more than happy to keep investigating.

Thanks,
Leonardo

Hi @Nikolasgreenelsh ,

After all the high-speed data is used up for a billing cycle, the speeds will fluctuate based on how congested traffic can get in your area at certain times, and this is essentially what we’ve observed in your case.

We have an ongoing experiment on a feature that is in development for users to save data when watching streamed videos from the web. Please let me know if you’re interested in participating.

The feature is similar to VDE, here’s an article talking more in-depth about it: Should I enable Video Data Extender?

Thanks,
Leonardo

so what your saying is that its normal to have my speeds drop to an unusable state after the data runs out
