Data is going fast

Sorry I’m new here and i have read several topics on the data going fast…We just moved back out here in rural area and of course there is not many choices at all…i think i had only 2 where i am at…but i am not sure how in the world i used almost 300 gb so dang fast…i have 2 roku tv…my alarm system and 2 phones connected at times…what i had before i had more than that connected and never used anywhere close to 300 gb…you watch one or 2 shows and your at 20 plus gb…there has been days we aren’t even home and we used data…so what gives…how can i slow this down and still be able to enjoy streaming shows or even music and not run out of data…definitely need better options

Hi @giard316, we are sorry about that experience.

Is it ok if we take a look at your data usage to better identify what has been using your data and provide a recommendation based on that?

Thanks,

Nacho

Absolutely please do

Hi @giard316,

Just as you suspected, your Roku TVs are the devices that are consuming the most data (60%). These are followed by an Unknown device (20%) and an Android device (18%).

  • Unfortunately on Roku TVs don’t have settings to lower video quality throughout all platforms, so as an alternative you could try changing the video quality settings on each of the streaming platforms you use on your TVs. Would you mind trying that and letting us know how it goes?
  • Are you doing any streaming of live events (such as sports) over your Roku TVs? Live streaming is known to use more data.
  • I noticed that the Android device had an event where it used a lot of data (about 10 GBs within 3 hours) when video streaming. Adjusting the video quality could also help for this device.
  • In order to identify that “unknown” device I will send you a private message with the full list of devices I see on your usage report, maybe that will help you recognize what it could be.

Thanks,

Nacho

Not streaming anything live and yes i can try settings for each app and see what happens…not sure what unknown device could be

Hi @giard316,

We ran a usage report by app for this unkown device, and it seems like it was streaming Peacock last Saturday (May 20) between 9 and 11pm.

Does that ring a bell? If not we can continue to dig.

Thanks,

Nacho

That has to be my other roku tv then…that is the only other thing i would watch peacock on…i will check when i get home…Thanks
