25mb plan - 0.2mb download tonight is ridiculous

Recently upgraded my plan to 25mb download speed and have consistently slow speeds and going over my high speed data limit likely through buffering. Emails load slowly and even getting the Viasat browser speed test page to come up took time. Tonight’s speed test a few minutes ago was a disgusting 0.2mb download speed. This isn’t worth the money.

Viasat, you need to deliver performance for what customers pay or admit you cannot and allow them to break contract without penalty.

Need help please.

Yeah stupid high prices for easy less than dial up Internet I swear. I’m seeing slow speeds even on nice sunny days

Hi, @caitlin.southwood,

Thanks for your message, I’ll investigate that. Once I have more information I let you know.

Hi, @tissuedragon. I created a new topic for better keeping track of your messages.

Let’s continue the conversation here → Slow speeds - @tissuedragon

@caitlin.southwood,

When you have a chance, please run some modem speed tests, as follows:
1 - Open the Viasat browserthis test won’t work on other browsers;
2 - Go to this website: Viasat Speed Check | Home
3 - Log in using your My Viasat account
4 - Run the test (wait for both tests - modem and device - to complete)

By following those steps, I’ll be able to see the results and some useful information about your modem. We’ll need that information to better investigate the issue.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your cooperation!

Same as last night

Hi, @caitlin.southwood,

From the speed test results, I see that the slowest speeds happened around 8 pm (peak period), when you were out of priority data.

Tomorrow your usage will be reset, and we’ll be able to know if lack of priority data was the main issue.

We should aim to maintain your priority data for as long as possible, so I’d suggest you sign up for the Data Saver feature. If a significant part of your usage is video streaming, then the Data Saver will help you use less data.

The Data Saver is an experimental feature we’re developing. It automatically reduces the video quality of most streaming apps.

If you want to learn more, read this forum topic → Announcing the Data Saver Feature Experiment!

If you want to enable the Data Saver, follow these steps:

2 - Let us know you did it

I will try the data saver feature, but that does not address the slow speeds experienced prior to reaching my monthly plan limit. I completely understand that “high speed” data may run out, but that shouldn’t mean I drop to “no speed” data (0.2mps).

I assume that everything checks out from what you can see remotely? The upgrade was installed a month ago and I did not see much improvement moving from the 12mps to 25mps speed. Is this the best you can do?

Hi, @caitlin.southwood,

I saw that you ran out of priority data on 23 September:

Do you remember when the “0.2Mbps” speeds started to happen? From what I was able to check, in your previous speed test results, before 23 September the speeds were not that bad.

I assume that everything checks out from what you can see remotely? The upgrade was installed a month ago and I did not see much improvement moving from the 12mps to 25mps speed. Is this the best you can do?

It’s more difficult to troubleshoot if there are multiple factors affecting the speeds. When you get priority data again tomorrow, we’ll be able to have a clearer picture of the problem.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your cooperation.

When you do fill up the data saver form, please let me know.

I will do my best to track the speed after the data renews.

Perhaps you can tell me what speed Viasat considers “high speed”. Is it 1mps, 5mps or what? If one is out of “high speed” data, what is the “not high speed” one should expect? The 0.26mps seems like a pretty low bar. At that rate, you pretty much having nothing after your plan data is reached. Something smells bad about that.

Hi, @caitlin.southwood,

Did you see any improvements in the speeds?

When you have a chance, please give it a try on the data saver.

As for the speeds, after your priority data finishes, you might get slower speeds. And that can vary depending on the current load on the network.
